Shifters are born with a spark of the wild burning within them. Their eyes often glimmer with a subtle feral gleam, and their physical features hint at an ancestry that once roamed untamed lands. Marked by a natural kinship to the beasts of the wild, shifters carry an inner strength that enables them to tap into their animalistic nature when danger looms. Their presence is both awe-inspiring and unsettling—a living reminder of the untamed power that lies dormant in even the most civilized souls.

In the shadowed fringes of civilization, shifters form tight-knit communities where the call of the wild is never far away. Here, ancient rites and instinctive traditions are passed down through generations, teaching young shifters to harness the raw power of their inner beasts. Their culture values both restraint and passion, urging them to master the duality of their nature. By day, they navigate society with a quiet determination, while by night, they awaken to the primal rhythms of the wild, their senses attuned to every sound and scent.

Shifters in Shattered Realms embody the delicate balance between human intellect and raw, bestial might. They walk a fine line between civilization and the wilderness, ever aware that the power within can both protect and destroy. Their legacy is one of transformation and resilience, a constant reminder that within every heart lies a wild spirit, waiting for the moment to rise and reclaim its ancient power.

Bestial Instincts

Channeling the beast within, you have proficiency in one of the following skills of your choice: Acrobatics, Athletics, Intimidation, or Survival.

Darkvision

You have Darkvision with a range of 60 feet.

Superior Reflexes

Gain advantage on Dexterity saving throws. When you make a Dexterity (Acrobatics) check, you can add double your proficiency bonus if you are shifted.

Shifting

At the start of your turn, you can assume a more bestial appearance. This transformation lasts for 1 minute, until you die, or until you revert to your normal appearance as a bonus action. When you shift, you gain temporary hit points equal to 2 × your proficiency bonus. You can use this feature a number of times per long rest equal to your proficiency bonus, or by expending a 1st level or higher spell slot.

While shifted, you gain an additional benefit based on one of the following options (choose when you select this race):

  • Beasthide. You gain PM additional temporary hit points at the start of your turn, and have +1 bonus to your Armor Class.

  • Longtooth. You can use your elongated fangs to make an unarmed strike. If you hit with your fangs, you can deal piercing damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength or Dexterity modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

  • Swiftstride. Your walking speed increases by 10 feet. Additionally, you can disengage as a reaction to being attacked and move up to 10 feet, this must be used when the attack is made before knowing if it hits.

  • Wildhunt. You have advantage on Wisdom checks, and your attacks deal additional damage equal to your proficiency bonus against a creature if you are within 5 feet of it, no other creatures are within 5 feet of you, and you don't have disadvantage on the attack roll.
